The Citroën C4 Hybrid parallel architecture

In this configuration, the internal combustion engine (ICE) drives generators to produce electricity. Electric motor uses this energy and the battery for driving the Citroën C4.

In other words, there is no mechanical connection between the ICE and the wheels. Long chain of energy conversion (heat? Mechanical? Electric? Mechanical) reduces the effectiveness of this type of transmission.
