Automat ic Transm iss ion
The gearshift must be in Park or Neutral to start the engine and must be in Park to remove the ignition key.
P = Park
To move the gearshift out of Park, the ignition must be in the ON position and the brake pedal must be pushed firmly.
R = Reverse
N = Neutral
No gear is engaged.
D = Drive (Overdrive)
This is the normal driving position for the best fuel economy.
The transmission shifts throughforward gears.
Direct Mode
Use this mode for temporarily switching gears via steering wheel shift switches with the gear selector in D. D and M indicators will be illuminated.
Direct mode will be cancelled if the tachometer approaches the red zone, the accelerator is fully depressed, after 4 seconds of steady throttle or if the vehicle is stopped or moving at slow speed.
To Shift Up to a Higher Gear:
• Pull the UP steering shift switch.
To Shift Down to a Lower Gear:
• Push the DOWN steering shift switch.
